Baptism (late posting)

We baptized the babies at the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral on April 14th. The babies are 6 weeks old and today is my parent’s anniversary- such a special day.  Father John, a dear friend of our family, was over the service. Everything turned out perfect.  We selected my sister, Christina, to be Anna Kate’s Godmother and Jason’s brother, Jeremy, to be her Godfather. My Uncle Tim (also my Godfather) is Foster’s Godfather and my cousin Stephanie is Foster’s Godmother. The babies are so lucky to have such loving people in their lives.  After the baptism, we all went back to our home and grilled hamburgers and hotdogs. It was such a nice relaxing afternoon with family and friends.

Football Season is quickly approaching

Football season is quickly approaching. It make me so exicted! We received our MSU Season Tickets in the mail which really makes it feel close.  I've started thinking of tailgate ideas, shopping for maroon outfits, and studying up on MSU football. I love this time of year- not sure if it is because of the Fall and cool days or spending time in StarkVegas. I am so excited the babies get to visit the campus with us this year.

My friend Haley emailed me this pic which quickly reminded me of where I was last year. Boy what a difference a year makes. Enjoy the pics and laughs!!

Flying Squirrel

We have a flying squirrel with babies in our bird house by the back porch.  My Paw Paw Jack made us the bird house when we moved in our house.  So sweet!

Mommy's day off

No more Gerber Mommy!- From July 25th

So as you probably read in a previous post, the babies were not a fan of Gerber bananas. From the beginning I planned to make some of the babies’ food rather than using premade baby food.  (NOTE: I am not saying that I will not use baby food because I will especially when traveling and when life gets crazy!) Jason’s grandparent bought us a Baby Bullet for a baby shower gift.  I pulled in out, did research online, and checked a few books out of the library (yes people do still go to the library LOL). Most of my research suggested starting 4 month old babies on avocados, bananas, and sweet potatoes.

Sweet Potatoes- I used 1oz cube ice trays to make the cubes.
After frozen, I put in ziplock bags for easy storage.

The food was really easy to make.  I scooped out the avocado and placed it in the Baby Bullet with water and blended for 10 seconds.  The consistency was perfect and was so creamy.  Some books suggest using breast milk or formula instead of water but since I planned to freeze the food I decided to use water.  I ordered the 1oz cube trays from Amazon and froze the food. Once the food was frozen, I placed the cubes in dated Ziploc bags. From what I have read the food cubes will last 3 months in the freezer.  I was able to make 30 servings of avocado with a bag from Sam’s. I bought 5 pounds of sweet potatoes for $3.45. I baked the sweet potatoes, let them cool and then blended them with water. I was able to make 35 servings of sweet potatoes for $3.45! The only thing that was a little expensive was the bananas.  It is recommended that you purchase organic bananas for babies.  I read that the skins on bananas are porous and pesticides can be traced in the actual banana.  Fortunately Rouse’s in Ocean Springs carries organic banana but they are $4 for one bunch~ a little more pricey but still worth it. The bananas turn a little brown but still taste good.

I have been giving the babies 1 tablespoon of rice cereal or oatmeal twice a day.  With the morning cereal I give them a teaspoon of avocado and a teaspoon of banana.  For the afternoon cereal I give them a teaspoon of avocado and a teaspoon of sweet potato.  They love it!! I try to make sure they eat 3-4 ounces of formula first to make sure they are getting the nutrients they need.  I plan to make green beans for the babies this weekend. I am going to see about buying some fresh beans.

Love the baby bullet. It is so easy to clean!
